watched people dance a cool sexy version of swing and wondered what it was?
It was probably West Coast Swing. It has gained a huge popularity
through-out the country. It is so popular, that hundreds of
conventions and contests are held around the country every year. West Coast
Swing is a truly American dance. It started forming in the late 40's, after
World War II, and has continued to evolve to the new dance form that it is
today. It can be danced to a wide variety of music, including Blues, R&B,
Jazz, Pop, and Country. If you are interested
in learning West Coast Swing, you have definitely come to the right place.
Mark Harris is a U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships Award Winner, and an 8 time State Swing Dance Champion.
He, and his partner, Glenda Evans, are currently 1st in the Nation on the
2008 Masters Tour (Masters National Swing Dance Championships)!
Mark & Glenda were 2nd
in the Nation on the Masters Tour in 2007, and Mark and his wife, Mary, won
3rd Place on the
2006 Masters Tour.
Mark is a Judging Coordinator for the Oklahoma/Kansas State Swing Dance
Association, and is a former State Director of the NTA (National Teacher
Association). He was the instructor for the Cow Town Swing Dance Club and the
Topeka Swing Dance Club.
Mark teaches
West Coast Swing group classes every Tuesday night at
Walters Dance Center. There
is a Beginner Class at 6:30 P.M., which is followed by a
Beginning/Intermediate class at 7:10 P.M., an Intermediate/Advanced class at
8:10 P.M., and open dancing (practice time) till 11:00 P.M. The cost for the
entire evening is only $8/person.
If you prefer to learn at a faster rate, or outside of
group classes, Mark is available for
Private Dance Lessons. The cost for
